I'm one week into my newly natural hair. I spritz my hair with water, then rub it down with pure Shea Butter right before going to bed.I like the way the Shea Butter adds what feels like natural moisture (not greasy) and shine to my hair .Applying the Shea butter to wet hair is a must for me, dry application leaves my hair greasy slick. I can be pretty slack about wearing my satin bonnet every night so my pillow case is satin. In the morning I either co-wash (washing with conditioner) or just soak my hair before applying my leave-in conditioner. At this point it's a wash and get going type of style but if I want greater curl definition I'll add hair polishing hair gel, rubbing it from root to tip. I created this style using lots of leave-in only.
I woke up late this morning-spritzed some water on on my head and fingered through it a little, got dressed and hurried the kids out the house to run an errand.I don't know if it was because I didn't have my morning adjustment period or what but when I looked in my rear view mirror I didn't recognize myself. It truely was a who's that moment. I felt regret. In an instant I recognized what was going on and I looked away, then took a second look-and their she was-beauty staring right back at me . Whew! And here is the truth: sometimes you have to submit your mind-reel that sucker in and change it. And sometimes you have to do it in a split second in order to change that moment and save the day!

My Second BC (big chop)
I feel incredible!!
The shreds of relaxed hair that I was hanging on to for the presentation of beauty and daily diminishing versatility, have all been cut out and thrown into the trash can. I am now the proud wearer of a mini Afro. Again. I did the exact same thing almost 7 years ago, and though my motivation for doing it then was different the LIBERATION is the exactly the same. I grew my hair out under the cover of relaxed hair for 8 months. I would have gone longer but I couldn't take it anymore; maneuvering my hair to hide the damage, combing through the two extremely different textures, feeling all that healthy, curling hair beneath the stringy, breaking mess. I had plans to wait until after my dear friend Brittany's wedding. I will be a bride's maid that day and wanted to look like one-not a ridiculous pick-a-ninny. Yep, I said it..more like admit to it. Somewhere along the way I'd re-accepted the idea that my natural hair was something the be wrestled into submission and kept in its place. But, you know, that's not the truth for me anymore. I am free. Which means I'm also free to relax my hair again if I want, because that's the nature of freedom. I willfully decline.
